Dr. Raj is a Photonics Research Director and Operations Director in Oracle Labs where he manages a team of researchers in photonics, interconnects and advanced packaging and also manages the UNIC silicon photonics program.

He joined Oracle through the acquisition of Sun Microsystems.

He is well known in the industry for enabling and successfully managing several high performance product development teams and R&D teams, contributing innovative products for volume adoption and producing many outstanding industry research results.

Before joining Sun in 2008, he served as Product Line Manager for Zarlink Semiconductor and held dual responsibility for the P&L of the I/O Products Group - managing the mixed signal integrated circuit product lines in Phoenix, Arizona, and the III-V photonic components product lines in Jarfalla, Sweden. This group introduced the industry first active optical cable product and is now part of Tyco Electronics.

Prior to that, between 2000 and 2006 he held diverse management roles at Primarion, a successful semiconductor startup, as R&D and product development leader, product line manager, operations head and reliability manager. Before Primarion, he served at Intel Corp. in Chandler, AZ, and managed product development teams, industry programs and university collaborative research programs on design, test, and R&D in semiconductors and photonics.

Prior to Intel, he was Assistant Research Professor and project coordinator at George Mason University where he facilitated industry/university collaborations on adoption of emerging photonics technologies.

He has over 40 issued patents and over 75 conference and journal publications. He is a Sr. Member of IEEE and is serving on the optoelectronics program committees for the ECTC conference and IEEE Santa Fe workshop on high-speed interconnects within digital systems.

Dr. Raj holds a Ph.D. from George Mason University (1994), MSEE from Virginia Tech (1990) and an ME in ECE from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (1988).
