Karl Haberl
Karl Haberl is the Senior Director of Oracle Labs East, with responsibility for an R&D portfolio that includes machine learning and AI, data science and data governance, distributed systems, and blockchain technologies. Karl manages a diverse team of scientists and engineers, most with advanced degrees. He is accountable for creating new technologies and solutions that offer bottom line business benefit to the company.
Over the course of his career, Karl has served in many different roles from individual technical contributor to senior management positions, all involving the creation and commercialization of new technologies. His technical background and experience spans many different areas of computer science, software engineering, and systems engineering, including: machine learning, AI, statistical and time series data analysis, digital signal processing, speech recognition, language processing, and networked simulation. He has served in a variety of senior management roles including Product Manager, Director of Development, Department Manager with P&L responsibility for a commercial line of business, and most recently Senior Director for Oracle Labs East.
Karl is Oracle’s representative to the Harvard Council on the Responsible Use of AI, and is leading the Diversity & Inclusion initiative for Oracle’s Advanced Research and Development organization, which has more than 1000 employees worldwide.
Karl holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts (Amherst) and a M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University. Karl lives in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts with his wife Catherine. They have four children and seven grandchildren. Karl’s principal leisure time activity is writing and recording original music and performing in a rock band.
