Thomas Shull

Tom Shull is a researcher at Oracle Labs, working on GraalVM. Specifically, he is working on developing new native image features and improving support for Arm's AArch64 architecture. He received a PhD (advisor Josep Torrellas) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 2020.

During his PhD, he focused on software-hardware co-designed solutions to improve managed language performance. His thesis focused on adding support for non-volatile memory to the Java runtime and also adding simple hardware support to reduce the overhead of maintaining a crash-consistent application state.
