Summary

With this collaboration, two medical researchers conducted quantitative exploration of a large-scale database comprised of a collection of clinical trials for multiple developmental drug products to treat Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. The CAMD clinical trials database is possibly the first large scale heterogeneous research database of clinical trials information in standardized format that includes multiple products under development for treating these two serious diseases. Researchers are currently limited to the use of custom programs in languages such as SAS for exploring this data. With this collaboration, they will conduct an in-depth research project that will use advanced data mining and analysis technologies including new Bayesian methods developed by Oracle’s Dr. William DuMouchel especially for exploiting this new data resource to gain medical insights from this database that can potentially inform development of future treatments.
