Summary

Modern shared-memory servers are increasingly suffering from non-uniform access latency and bandwidth. The Islands approach proposed in this collaboration strikes a balance between the extremes of shared-everything and shared-nothing DBMS architectures, enabling the DBA to adapt the system to the needs of a particular workload. The project seeks to both characterize the sources of NUMA sensitivity within the Shore-MT storage manager and build an advisory tool to mitigate the additional tuning complexity.
